Brothers & Sisters,

We finish up our series on the Kingdom of God and Temple Theology by looking at the gospel of Matthew 22:15-22, where the Pharisees and Herodians tried to trap Jesus with a hot button political question:

"Is it right (lawful) to pay the imperial tax to Caesar or not?"

Jesus response

"Give to Caesar what is Caesar's and to God what is God's"

is often viewed as Jesus affirming the church/state split. That is hardly what this text is about. It is about a clash of Kingdoms! God's Kingdom vs the Kingdoms of the this world and Jesus is about to

"Pay Back to Caesar what Caesar has coming to him!"

Of course, the surprise is how Jesus pays back Caesar!  Listen to the message to find out.

For the King led us in worship this morning and Pastor John brought God's Word to us.

In our Sunday School lesson, Melanie talks with our kids (and us) about this question:

How does a coat of colours, prison, dreams all end with forgiveness?
